The Play’s The Thing
This Saturday, March 28 from 10 pm – midnight on 89.3 KPCC, L.A. Theatre Works’ The Play’s the Thing will air Earth and Sky by Douglas Post, starring Ed Begley, Jr., Annette Bening, John Mahoney, and Steven Weber. Sarah McKeon lives in the rarefied world of library work and poetry readings. But the brutal murder of her lover shakes loose her naivete in Douglas Post’s haunting thriller. Through the dangerous streets and barren alleys of Chicago’s Northside, McKeon searches for the truth about the man she thought she knew. The broadcast includes an interview with Ed Begley, Jr.
Next Saturday, April 4 from 10 pm – midnight on 89.3 KPCC, L.A. Theatre Works’ The Play’s the Thing will air Mizlansky/Zilinsky by Jon Robin Baitz, starring Nathan Lane, Julie Kavner, Richard Masur, Rob Morrow, Paul Sand, Grant Shaud, and Harry Shearer. Cunning Hollywood producer Davis Mizlansky and his nervous partner Sam Zilinsky are the archetypal Hollywood con men. They’re trying to hatch one last grand scheme – but the IRS is trying to cash a reality check. What happens when the art of the deal turns into a battle for the ultimate double-cross? The broadcast includes an essay by Jon Robin Baitz recounting how he expanded Mizlansky/Zilinsky from a one-act play to a full-length production. The essay is read by actor Eric Stoltz.
