In January 2007, the WGAE Big Apple Short Radio Drama Festival aired a collection of pieces produced, directed, and edited by Emon Hassan and the Hassberry Theatre Company.
The WGAE Big Apple Short Radio Drama Festival was created with the support of the Writers Guild of America, East, WGAE affiliates abroad, BOB AND RAY, Teachers & Writers Collaborative, Hassberry Theatre Company, New York University Department of TV/Radio, Brooklyn College Radio, Radio Foundation/Radio Art, and New York City Government radio station WNYE-FM.
Included among the program entries was William E. Spear’s adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s THE RAVEN. Performed by Thos Shipley, with original music by Kevin Mahonchak, The Raven slowly builds to a maddening crescendo induced by Poe’s bird which intones a single word.
Did you hear that? What was that tapping, gentle rapping at my chamber door? The wind? Lenore? Will it ever stop? Will I ever be sane again?
THE RAVEN was produced, directed, and edited by Emon Hassan and the Hassberry Theatre Company for The Big Apple Short Radio Drama Festival on WNYE FM 91.5.
Radio Adaptation by William E. Spear.
Narrated by Thos Shipley.
Original score by Kevin Mahonchak.
