Well, it’s come to this – if General Motors hadn’t filed for bankruptcy on the same day as us, we would have been the big headline. In the past few weeks, New Jersey has shaken off the last traces of wintry cold and slipped on the damp greys of spring.

There is lots of green – except for my yard – and some lovely flowers, but the whole scene’s beneath a sky that looks like the interior walls of a mausoleum.

With sunny, blue skies so scarce they’ve been listed on the Endangered Species List, just slightly above independant US automobile manufacturers, writing becomes a more attractive option.

Why should I go outside to scribble a few chapters when the pages will only get damp from the rain?

Why should I risk the flu – swine, H1N1, or otherwise – when re-writes beckon?

With an October 1, 2009 release only six months away, there’s even more reason to stay inside.

I don’t know what MAYONNAISE IN MY CAKE AND OTHER DELIGHTS will ultimately look like, but it’s been fun getting to this point. And we will always, always, always:

Believe, Simply Believe

Jeremy Chikalto, Editor in Chief of Viral Cat, has advised that William E. Spear’s “Swing for the Fences” will be included in its April issue. Viral Cat is a Literary E-ZINE based in San Francisco, California.

“Swing for the Fences” is a play about Jake Alston, a young boy whose entire world is centered on playing baseball with his father. But Jake’s life is changed forever when his father is killed in World War One.

“When Viral Cat was brought to my attention, I went up to their January issue,” said William E. Spear, playwright of “Swing for the Fences”. Several pieces caught my attention – Autumn Turley’s “Ghost”, “I Could Have Been Throwing A Red Rubber Ball for a Dog” by Kenneth Hays, and Brett Buchanan’s “Melody’s”. The broad and diverse range of writing was intriguing.”

Upon querying Viral Cat to determine its openness to consider radio plays, Mr. Chikalto wrote back encouraging the submission. The play was sent across and ultimately accepted for its April 2009 issue.

“It is a pleasure to be included in Viral Cat’s upcoming issue,” said Spear. “I hope ‘Swing for the Fences’ provides the readers of Viral Cat a new experience in form and format.”
