The December 2007 issue of Digital Content Producer contains a fine article by Dan Daly. The piece, titled “Workflow Evolution” ( Digital Content Producer; December 1, 2007; http://digitalcontentproducer.com/ ), details the impact technology is having on the production of audio for video games.

However, the deeper value is in Mr. Daly’s inclusion of commentary on the value of sound in video games. The capacity of audio to respond to a video game’s various branch points, as well as, indicate changes in the potentially unlimited story lines demonstrates its powerful flexibility.

Any visual entertainment offering which integrates the range of audio and its ability to tell stories, segue into new directions, and foreshadow drama yet to be seen has a powerful advantage with audiences and ultimately in the marketplace.

Audio rocks visual entertainment. Right between the ears.
